Verity licence terms

Version 1, 2026-09-14. Draft for review; not yet legally reviewed. Plain words on purpose. Where these terms and the law of your country disagree, the law wins.

1. What you are buying

A licence key of one of these kinds:

  • Founder licence (€99 once, first 5.000 buyers only): everything the Licence gives, plus every coming feature, every new-feature release and every major version for as long as Verity exists, the Relay included from the day it launches, on up to 5 activations. No Update Pass or upgrade is ever needed on a Founder key. Not transferable.
  • Licence (€69 once): the right to use the Verity Player, and later the Verity Server, at the major version current when you bought it, on up to 3 activations at a time, for as long as you like. Every bug-fix release of that major version is included, for as long as Verity exists.
  • Update Pass (€19 a year, optional, for a licence): every new-feature release published while the pass is active. When it lapses you keep the last version you were entitled to, plus bug fixes for it.
  • Major upgrade (€29 once, for a licence): raises the key by one major version, with bug fixes for that version.
  • Subscription (€39 a year or €3,99 a month): every feature and every release while it is paid, 5 activations, the Relay when it ships. Playback stops when the period ends and is not renewed; everything else keeps working.
  • Demo (free): the full player for 30 days on 2 activations. It cannot be renewed.
  • Relay (€12 a year, for a licence; included in a subscription): access to the Verity Relay from the day it launches. It cannot be bought before that day.

2. Bug fix or new feature?

A bug-fix release corrects behaviour that does not match the documentation, or a crash, or a security problem, and adds no capability. A new-feature release adds capability and says so in its notes. We decide which is which, in writing, in the release notes, and we do not hide features inside bug-fix numbering. The update check asks the licence server what your key may install before offering a build.

3. Clients: the apps

The licence is for the system that holds your library and plays: the Verity Server, or the desktop Player when it is your system. The apps (iPhone, iPad, Android, the desktop app in client mode) need no licence; they connect to a licensed system. Each licence allows 10 connected apps; a client pack (€15 once) raises that by 10 and can be bought as often as needed.

4. Activations

One activation is one installed player or server, identified by a device fingerprint (a hash of machine and install identifiers, not your machine name). An activation that has not checked in for 30 days is freed automatically. You can free one at any time from your account page, or from the player's Settings.

5. What the software sends, and what it does not

At activation and at most once a day while online: the key, the fingerprint, the device name you chose, the platform and the version. For the Relay, the account token. Never: library contents, play history, sources, network layout, output names. Opt-in metadata lookups go to the services named in Settings, with the switch you set. The player keeps working for 14 days without any contact with us; after that playback locks with a clear message until a check succeeds.

6. Misuse

A key used on more devices than allowed, cycled through many fingerprints, validated from distant places in a short time, or a demo key shared widely, is flagged. A flagged key may be banned with a reason shown on your account page, where you can appeal. Playback on a banned key locks at the next token expiry, not instantly, so a mistake on our side costs you nothing.

7. Refunds and withdrawal

14 days from purchase, without a reason, as EU consumer law requires. Write to us from the email on your account. Refunded keys are cancelled.

8. Third-party components

ASIO is a trademark and software of Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH, used under the ASIO Licensing Agreement. Spotify Connect uses librespot and is subject to Spotify's terms for your Spotify account. AirPlay, Chromecast, Sonos and other names belong to their owners; Verity's implementations are its own.

9. Warranty and liability

We publish what the software does and measure what it claims. Beyond the statutory guarantees of your country, the software is provided as is. We are not liable for indirect damage, and never for more than you paid.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms for future purchases. A key you already own keeps the terms it was bought under.
