Sources Available
Local folders, SMB and NFS shares, watched for changes with a timed rescan: first scan of 100k files about 20 s, rescan under a second, built for 300,000 tracks and more. WebDAV (Nextcloud, ownCloud, Synology), UPnP media servers, SFTP and FTP, S3 and B2 with a lighter scan that explains itself in the Sources view. Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive are coming.
Formats Available
FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, Ogg, Opus, WavPack, APE, DSF and DFF. Artwork extracted per album, decoded once into a 400 px thumbnail.
Views Available
Albums (wall, sort, focus, facets), artists with opt-in bios and photos, genres, composers, works, folders, tracks, playlists, tags and collections, history and statistics, duplicates by tags and by sound, technical.
Global search Available
Ctrl+K across albums, artists, tracks, playlists, radio, views and actions. Full-text index keyed by rowid: 5 ms typical, 49 ms worst on 100k files.
Analysis in the background Available
At lowest priority: EBU R128 loudness, true peak, dynamic range, file health (FLAC MD5, decode errors, truncation), Chromaprint fingerprint, tempo, brightness, flux, a 400-point waveform. Speed and pause-while-playing are settings.
Identification, opt-in Available
AcoustID on the stored fingerprints, MusicBrainz releases and credits: performers, producers, engineers, composers, works.
Fix tags from MusicBrainz Available
Previews every difference per track and field, writes only what is ticked, keeps a restorable backup of the old tags. A playing track is refused.
Lyrics and covers Available
LRCLIB and Cover Art Archive behind the same online switch.
Backups Available
Daily at start (keeps five) and on demand; restore from the Technical tab. Settings, playlists, tags and play history as JSON, tracks by path.
Playback and outputs
UPnP AV / DLNA and OpenHome Available
The device pulls the file from Verity's stream server as it is, or as WAV when it cannot take the format. GENA events for state, RenderingControl volume and mute, byte ranges for seeking, gapless via SetNextAVTransportURI. A per-device fixed-volume mode is remembered automatically when a renderer ignores software volume.
Sonos Available
UPnP playback plus group topology: join, leave, leads and with. Sonos gets its documented 24/48 ceiling and no DSD, stated up front.
WASAPI exclusive and ASIO Available
Integer PCM handed to the driver unchanged; event-driven, every event fills the whole buffer; MMCSS Pro Audio. ASIO: the vendor driver owns the clock, a lock-free ring feeds bufferSwitch. DSD as DoP, native ASIO DSD next. Hardware volume where the endpoint has it.
AirPlay 2 Available
Verity's own sender: /info, transient pairing or HomeKit PIN pairing (HomePod, AirPlay speakers; Apple TV coming), encrypted control channel, session and stream setup, sealed audio packets, timing and sync. ALAC 44.1 kHz / 16-bit; hi-res is resampled and dithered and the path says so.
Chromecast Available
Cast v2 over TLS; the device pulls FLAC, WAV, MP3, AAC, Ogg up to 96 kHz / 24-bit as they are, anything else as 24-bit WAV.
Spotify Connect Available
Verity as a speaker in the Spotify app. Lossy, unity gain, and the path says lossy.
Internet radio Available
ICY titles, presets, .pls and .m3u resolved. A radio-browser directory is coming.
You choose the network Available
A computer with several adapters (Wi-Fi, wired, a virtual switch, a VPN) confuses most players. Verity asks you which interfaces to use and then uses exactly those for discovery, for the stream server, for the address it advertises to devices and for event callbacks. Physical adapters only by default; virtual switches, VPNs and link-local addresses stay off unless you turn them on. The Server gets the same choice, so you control where the traffic goes.
One entry per device Available
A device that speaks several protocols is listed once per path in the output picker, and "Send audio by" in Device setup chooses the path. Rename, group, hide, and see which computer owns an output.
Capabilities, measured not guessed Available
WASAPI is probed 44.1 to 768 kHz at 16, 24 and 32 bits without opening the device. ASIO reports each rate, its sample type, buffer size, latency and native DSD support. The DoP ceiling is derived and labelled "if the DAC decodes DoP".
Zones
A zone per output Available
Every output has its own queue and transport, playing independently. The transport bar follows the chosen output; choosing another idle output moves the music there with queue, position and paused state.
Play together Available
Local outputs follow each other in sync with drift corrected by dropping or repeating single frames. Sonos groups are Sonos' own sync. Cross-brand clock sync is the Bridge's job.
Zones menu Available
Lists all zones, opens a second one, closes one, moves playback.
Signal path, formats and DSP
The signal path Available
Source, decoder, DSP stages, transport, device: each node with its format and a touch class (untouched, relayed, decoded, repacked, resampled, re-encoded, attenuated, processed, opaque) and a verdict with its reason.
How it plays Available
Explains the path for any output with sample formats (CD FLAC, 24/48, 24/96, 24/192, ALAC, WavPack, DSD64/128/256, MP3, AAC, radio) and a table of what each becomes on that output.
Device setup Available
Ceilings for PCM rate and bits and for DSD; DSD strategy (auto, DoP, native, convert, send the file); volume mode (auto, fixed, device, DSP); resync delay; buffer size; zones; transport.
DSP, opt-in, always shown Available
Headroom with clip counter, loudness compensation, tilt, parametric EQ with AutoEq and REW import, convolution, crossfeed, in-family upsampling capped by the device, crossfade, presets. Never on DoP.
Volume levelling Available
From the measured loudness, track or album, towards -18 LUFS, attenuation only. Off by default. Shown as a stage in the path.
Rate truth Available
A live wall-clock ÷ audio-clock ratio for local outputs, plus events, frames written, silence inserted and timeouts. 1.000 is correct.
Vera and voice

Stations from your own library with every pick explained: energy, tempo, vocal, variety, era, time of day, weather, seasonality, the best master of a recording.
Voice, offline Available
Windows speech (SAPI) with a grammar built from your library. Spoken replies are optional. No cloud model.

Bring your own key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) or a local OpenAI-compatible server. The key never reaches the UI and is never in a backup.

Coming: browse and play the services you subscribe to, with the same signal path and the same verdicts as your own files.
iPhone, iPad and Android apps Coming
Coming. The apps connect to a Verity Server, or to the Verity Player running on your computer; one of the two must be on at home. Browse, search, queue, zones, now playing with the signal path. A phone is a zone too, with the same honesty about what it does to the bits. Away from home they reach the house through the Verity Relay.

Grouped zones in sync across brands Coming
Play the same music in every room, on speakers from different makers, in time. AirPlay receivers first: Verity is the clock master, which is exactly what multi-room AirPlay needs. Then everything else through the Verity Bridge.
Verity Bridge Coming
A small program for another computer or device (a PC, a laptop, a Raspberry Pi, a NAS): the DAC or amplifier attached to it becomes a Verity zone, driven by the Server, in sync with the other rooms, reporting exactly what the DAC negotiated. The same software ships built into the Verity box for rooms without a computer.
